The 2010 election is proving to be one of the tightest fights in electoral history. The polls are close, the parties are trying to squeeze every last percentage point out that is possible and everybody has an opinion of how the election is going to finish. So I have decided to challenge my colleagues from the other leading Brussels-based consultancies to make predictions ahead of May 6.
The questions being posed are ‘name the party you believe will win the greatest number of seats and predict the number of seats’ and ‘name the party you believe will win the greatest share of the votes cast and predict the percentage share of the votes’. To make the bet a little more interesting, those taking part will put €100 on the table and the winner gets to give the proceeds to a charity of their choice.
So in the interests of proving I can put my money where my mouth is, here are my predictions:
Party with the greatest number of seats: Labour
Number of seats: 274
Party with the greatest share of the votes cast: Conservative
Percentage share of the votes: 35%
What are yours?
